Renowned Iqbal scholar, poet, Educationist, and Critic Professor Dr. Aslam Ansari passed away on Tuesday, 22 October 2024, in Multan at the age of 85.
Dr. Ansari completed his MA in Urdu from Oriental College Lahore in 1962 and MA in Persian from Bahauddin Zakariya University in 1985. He earned his PhD in 1998.
He spent his life in the field of education, serving in various cities including Lahore, Bahawalpur, and Multan. Dr. Ansari authored multiple books in Urdu and Persian, "Iqbal: The Poet and Thinker of the Age", "Iqbal: The Epoch-Making Poet",- "Iqbal's Poetry and Thought",- "Iqbal Studies" are important titles on Iqbal.
His book "Iqbal: The Poet and Thinker of the Age" (2011) was declared the best book by Iqbal Academy Pakistan and won the Presidential Iqbal Award.
He was also awarded- Tamgha-e-Husan-e-Kargarddgi (Medal of Best Service) and Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence) by the Government of Pakistan. National Bank also awarded for translating Kafi of Khwaja Farid Director of Iqbal Academy Pakistan, Dr. Abdul Rauf Rafiqi, expressed deep sorrow over Dr. Ansari's demise, praising his services as a teacher, poet, researcher, and Iqbal scholar. He said Dr. Ansari's passing is a significant loss to the world of Urdu literature.
